Established in 2011, the BCC is a collaborative initiative led by barley farmers and industry members.
In August of 2012, the Government of Saskatchewan endorsed the creation of the BCC. Both Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development and Agriculture and Agri–Food Canada (AAFC) also supported the organization’s formation in principle.
In September 2012, the BCC Working Group appointed me as its chair. Having completed an industry-wide survey, the Working Group then finalized its strategic plan and bylaws and officially incorporated as a national not-for-profit organization in April 2013.
Two years later, the Council now boasts membership from across Canada, and truly operates as a national body.
