CALGARY, AB (September 10, 2013) – The Barley Council of Canada (BCC) would like to congratulate Jason Krips on his recent appointment as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (AARD).

“This is an encouraging time for Alberta’s farmers and this appointment is critical to ensuring the long-term profitability and sustainable growth of Canada’s barley industry,” said Brian Otto, BCC Chairman. “Deputy Minister Krips has an extensive background at Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development and his experience and valuable knowledge will benefit the industry.”

The BCC Board is looking forward to collaborating with Krips on new ways to generate innovation in the barley industry.

“As a national organization representing barley, we realize it is essential to work together for the benefit of the entire value chain,” said Otto. “We plan to work alongside AARD to continue building strong support for Alberta’s farmers and grain industry.”

Otto added that the BCC Board is confident this recent appointment will benefit the entire barley value chain.

Jason Krips will replace John Knapp as deputy minister of agriculture, effective Sept. 30.
