(Calgary, AB) February 11, 2016 – The Barley Council of Canada (BCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new directors following its annual general meeting last week.
Bryan Adam of Alberta Barley was appointed to represent barley producers in Alberta. Adam will take over for Jason Lenz who previously held the position since 2013.
Newest BCC members the Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) also joined the board. Markus Haerle, a farmer from eastern Ontario and member of GFO, was appointed to the board.
“I am happy to see our membership has grown to include GFO,” said BCC Chair Brian Otto. “Our board structure represents a diverse cross-section of Canada’s barley industry; having GFO at the table helps us further unite Canada’s barley industry.”
BCC membership includes all provincial and regional barley organizations from coast-to-coast as well as malting, brewing, feed users, grain handlers and exporters, researchers, and seed and life sciences companies. The BCC board is comprised of representatives from each of these sectors.
“The strength of the BCC board is in our diverse membership,” said Otto. “Our national board connects all of the links in Canada’s barley value chain.”
In addition to these new appointments, members of the BCC Executive Committee—chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer—were re-appointed to their respective positions.
“I am delighted to continue on as the Chair of the BCC,” said Otto. “We have come a long way this past year and I am eager to continue working for Canada’s barley industry.”
The BCC’s fourth annual general meeting will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in January 2017.
