Brian Otto

Western Barley Growers Association (BCC Chair)
Otto and his wife Carolyn operate a third generation family farm east of Warner, Alta., traditionally growing grains and oilseeds—spring wheat, durum, CPS, hard white and winter wheat, barley, triticale, safflower, mustard, peas, lentils, chickpeas, coriander—on their 4,200 acre dryland farm. Otto has sat on numerous boards as a director—including the Alberta Barley Commission and Western Grains Research Foundation, and the Western Barley Growers Association.He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Western Barley Growers in 2003 and became President in February 2009. Otto is the founding director of Alberta Safflower Growers Association, Alberta Winter Wheat Association, Alberta Winter Wheat Producers Commission and Prairie Winds Specialty Seed Producers Ltd. He has extensive training and experience in agriculture, sitting on numerous review and advisory committees. Recently, Otto was an honourary recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for forward-thinking, compassionate and caring individuals in the spirit of agriculture.
